Yoga Dandasana - Yoga Staff Posture
Yoga Dandasana – Yoga Staff Pose
Yoga Dandasana is a wonderful hip opener in the 4th series of Ashtanga yoga.
The 4th series of Ashtanga yoga includes deep hip openers, leg behind the head postures, backbends and arm balances.
Yoga Dandasana is practiced towards the end of the 4th series. It is a deep hip opening posture and is relaxing and meditative. The hand is extended in jnana mudra, the mudra of knowledge and the dristi, the look place is to the side, known as parshva dristi.
Breathe deeply, relax your hips and eyes!
In Ashtanga vinyasa yoga, the 4th series is traditionally practiced after the postures of the first second and third series have been mastered. The 4th series is practiced on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. While the first series is practiced on Fridays, the second series is practiced on Sundays and the third series is practiced on Mondays. The full moon and new moon as well as Saturdays are rest days.
