Yoga Mats and Cotton Yoga Rugs for Ashtanga Yoga practice

Ashtanga yoga is traditionally practiced on a cotton yoga rug. The cotton yoga rug can be placed on top of a yoga sticky mat. It provides extra padding and a soft natural material against the skin. Since, Ashtanga yoga is a vigorous yoga practice, which includes vinyasa, breath initiated movements between the postures, the body becomes warm and the soles of the hands and feet become moist with perspiration. Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is therefore deeply purifying. As the body warms up the cotton fabric will provide a non-slip surface to practice yoga postures on, whereas a synthetic yoga sticky mat, becomes a slippery mat. It is environmental friendly to select a yoga mat, which is made from recycled materials.
